Why Silk?

What makes mulberry silk different from other silks

Mulberry silk is widely regarded as the finest silk in the world. It is produced by the Bombyx mori silkworm, which is fed exclusively on the leaves of the mulberry tree. This controlled diet results in exceptionally long, uniform, and incredibly smooth silk filaments.

Unlike wild silks (Tussah, Eri, Muga), which are produced by silkworms living in natural habitats and feeding on a variety of leaves, mulberry silk fibers are smoother, stronger, more lustrous, and have a far more consistent texture. The result is a fabric that feels noticeably softer against your skin and hair, with superior durability and a natural, elegant sheen.

What momme weight means and why 22 momme matters

Momme (mm) is the standard measurement of silk weight and density — similar to thread count in cotton. The higher the momme, the heavier, more durable, and more luxurious the silk.

22 momme is the premium standard for pillowcases: heavy enough to be long-lasting and opaque, yet light enough to stay breathable and incredibly soft against your skin and hair. Anything below 19 momme is considered lower quality and tends to wear out quickly or feel thin and slippery in the wrong way.

The protein structure of silk and why it's gentle on skin

Silk is composed of a unique protein called fibroin, which forms long, smooth chains with a beta-sheet molecular structure. This creates an exceptionally flat and uniform surface at the microscopic level — unlike the rough, irregular fibers found in cotton or synthetic satin.

Because of this smooth protein structure, silk glides effortlessly across skin and hair with almost zero friction. It does not tug, pull, or create micro-abrasions during sleep, making it significantly gentler on sensitive skin, hair cuticles, and even fine facial lines.
